Asked for proof of his claim that Mr. Biden was personally directing the local cases against him, Mr. Trump pointed to purported ties between prosecutors and “Washington,” but provided no evidence that Mr. Biden had been involved in any of the hiring decisions, conversations or meetings that Mr. Trump cited. The writer E. Jean Carroll filed her first lawsuit against Mr. Trump in November 2019, accusing him of defamation. Faulty and irrelevant comparisonsWhat Mr. Trump Said“I got indicted more than Al Capone.”— in a rally in Ohio in MarchFalse. Mr. Hur described Mr. Biden as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory” who had “diminished faculties and faulty memory.” He did not declare Mr. Biden mentally incompetent to stand trial. Read previewATLANTA, Georgia — Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis testified Thursday that she and the special prosecutor she hired to oversee the Trump case butted heads on gender norms while they dated. "Mr. Wade is used to women that, as he told me one time, the only thing a woman can do for him is make him a sandwich," Willis testified. Willis testified during the contentious Thursday hearing that Wade's attitude on issues like that was a pain point for them while dating. During a line of questioning about the end of Willis and Wade's relationship, the Fulton County DA offered a glimpse into the former couple's dynamic. However, Robin Bryant Yeartie, a former friend and colleague of Willis, testified Thursday that Willis and Wade's relationship began in 2019.

“At times,” Wade said, "I have made and purchased travel for District Attorney Willis and myself from my personal funds. The motion alleged that Willis and Wade were in an inappropriate romantic relationship that created a conflict of interest. The filing seeks to dismiss the case and to have Willis and Wade and their offices barred from further prosecuting the case. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee, who’s presiding over the election case, has set a Feb. 15 hearing on Roman’s motion. Roman’s motion did not include any concrete proof for the allegations of a romantic relationship between Willis and Wade.

Despite calls by some legal experts to recuse herself from the case to protect its integrity, she is not expected to do so, the sources told CNN. Still, a source familiar with the thinking inside the DA’s office told CNN they would be “mystified” if it succeeds in removing her. “I think a lot of what I’ve read is more of a distraction and not legally substantive,” James told CNN in a sit-down interview. I think it’s very unlikely that we’ll see any criminal action come out of that,” Kreis told CNN. If Willis ultimately survives the current push to disqualify her, the case would effectively be back on track, sources told CNN.

The case against Donald Trump in Georgia for allegedly participating in a criminal conspiracy to interfere with the 2020 election is more important than any individual actor managing the prosecution, and that includes the Fulton County district attorney, Fani Willis, and the case’s lead prosecutor, Nathan Wade. In recent weeks, Ms. Willis and Mr. Wade have found themselves in a spotlight that should belong to the serious charges against Mr. Trump. The two are the focus of a legal motion, and ensuing news reporting about a possible romantic relationship between them has explored whether it amounts to a conflict of interest with regard to the case. I’m a law professor in Georgia who teaches ethics and who has studied the legal consequences that might come if Ms. Willis and Mr. Wade are found to have a conflict, and I believe the judicious and farsighted course would be for Ms. Willis to take a personal leave of absence and turn over control of the district attorney’s office, and the case against Mr. Trump, to a career deputy district attorney. Doing so would be an act of public service by Ms. Willis — and more important, offers the best option for keeping the criminal case on track and holding Mr. Trump and his co-defendants accountable for their actions in the 2020 election if that is the just outcome.

But Mr. Trump’s trials — especially the two he faces on charges of election interference, which were brought in Washington by the special counsel, Jack Smith, and in Georgia by the Fulton County district attorney, Fani T. Willis — will be of a different nature. They will be wrapped up in a tangled web of legal and political complexities that has never been seen before. As if to prove his point, prosecutors in the Georgia case said on Wednesday that they expect to call at least 150 witnesses and that the trial there could last four months. “These cases are much more nuanced and complicated than the riot cases,” Mr. Buell said. Citing the unprecedented nature of the case, the lawyers have said they are also planning to portray the prosecution as a direct attack on Mr. Trump by his chief political rival, President Biden.

I'll be going to Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday to be ARRESTED by a Radical Left District Attorney, Fani Willis," Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who launched the investigation into Trump and his allies, has given the defendants until noon Friday to voluntarily surrender. Trump earlier Monday agreed to a $200,000 bond in the Georgia criminal case charging him with trying to illegally overturn the 2020 presidential election results in the state. Eastman — who's referenced but not charged as a co-conspirator in special counsel Jack Smith's federal criminal case against Trump for allegedly trying to subvert the 2020 election results — features prominently and repeatedly in the DA's indictment. Ray Smith, another Trump lawyer who was allegedly involved in the electors scheme, agreed to a $50,000 bond order, court filings show.

An ex-Giuliani staffer told Politico that Fani Willis will be a "superstar" if she convicts Trump. Giuliani during an appearance on Newsmax earlier this week firmly rejected Willis' use of RICO statutes in the Georgia case. Since November 2020, Trump has cast doubt on now-President Joe Biden's 2020 victory in Georgia, despite no evidence of voting irregularities and vote counts affirming the final results. After decades of GOP dominance on the presidential level, Georgia backed Biden by roughly 12,000 votes out of 5 million ballots cast. Shortly after the 2020 election, Trump pushed Gov.

This argument has been partially successful with US District Judge Aileen Cannon in the federal classified documents case. It is unclear whether the judge assigned to the Georgia case would be amenable to delay arguments. I expect that, as in the New York case, where the judge recently denied such a motion, Trump will seek to move the case against him to federal court. While those decisions may not be binding on the Georgia judge, they will be informative as he considers the issues. As president, Trump would have the power to scuttle the federal cases and a greater ability to avoid accountability in the state cases as well.

Trump and his aides are far more concerned about the Georgia elections probe and the Mar-a-Lago case. She added that his aides are privately worried about the Mar-a-Lago case, which is "clearer-cut." "Some of his aides are very worried about the documents investigation that the Justice Department has," Haberman said. She added that the Mar-a-Lago case is a "clearer-cut issue" in comparison to the other investigations. In March, the conservative lawyer and pundit George Conway told Insider that of the cases Trump faces, he's most likely to face prison time over the Mar-a-Lago documents case.
Fulton County DA Fani Willis was spotted partying with Shaq at his birthday party over the weekend. Willis is weighing whether to empanel a grand jury for criminal indictments against Donald Trump. A special grand jury Willis empaneled completed a report into Trump in January. If Willis now refers the case to a grand jury, it would have the power to bring criminal indictments. Criminal cases, such as the Manhattan and Georgia cases, typically get priority over civil cases in court calendars when they're running concurrently.
